Effective communication =
happiness, confidence and achievement
Communication is not just about talking. The essential element of effective communication is paying attention to and processing other people’s non-verbal signals.
Between 60-90% of a conversation is understood through the non-verbal message so the development of these non-verbal skills is crucial. Being able to make sense of social situations is key to being able to get the most out of a situation and fulfil our potential.
A child who does not pick up on these very subtle cues, often can talk very well but finds it difficult or impossible to communicate effectively with those around them. This causes frustration which can lead to extreme behaviour patterns.
Not Just Talking has specialised in developing non-verbal skills in children for the past 15 years. We are currently focussing on:
- increasing understanding of the importance of non-verbal communication
- giving parents and professionals the know-how to enable them to help babies and young children have the best start to communication
- training professionals in how to deal with problems in school-aged children arising from poor non-verbal skill development
- Speechmark to publish Not Just Talking books for professionals and intervention resources
